-7 ( 3/9 )

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-21/9

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Reduce the 3/9 to 1/3 (divide top and bottom by 3) Then multiply the tops (7 and 1) and the bottoms (1 and 3) In other words 7 1 _ x _ = ? 1 3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Whoops...make that -7 in the first fraction.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im soo lost

OpenStudy (anonymous):

When you multiply fractions, you multiply the tops to get the new numerator and the bottoms to get the new denominator...with me so far?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-2 1/3 ??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So what the question is asking is -7 3 ___ x ___ 1 9 since any whole number is a fraction with a 1 in the denominator. So far so good?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, the answer is -2 1/3...if yuor teacher will let you keep it in that form. Most won't, but you'd know their preference better than I. -7/3 is a much better answer.
