Essentially a synthesis essay is an argument; however, those folks over at the college board decided to help you out by giving you some passages to work into you're essay. Make no mistake though, all the elements you would incorporate into a good argument work likewise to the synthesis essay. The only difference is the added weight of the discussion of where the sources are from and the support the lend or detract. It should be for every one bit of evidence three bits of analysis and argument.
