needs help solving inequalities please!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

write your inequality

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[x/2-1/4lex/4+1\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the slash lines are fractions, FYI:)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so I subtracted 1/4 and came out with x/2< x/4+5/4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what is 1/4lex means?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

NOW, I am subtracting x/4 from both sides...leaving me with x/2-x/4<5/4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that was suppose to be the less or equal to sign <

OpenStudy (anonymous):

not sure where to go from there. it says to simplify, leaving me with x/4,5/4, but not sure what happened with that x/2...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok. you can use: <= or >= as well... everybody will understand

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if I understand ... x/2 -1/4 <= x/4 +1 put x on one side & numbers on another: x/2 - x/4 <=1+1/4 2x/4 -x/4 <=4/4 +1/4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x/4 <=5/4 multiply both sides by 4 (it's positive number, so there is no change in sign of inequality): x<=5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

are you ok with this?
