A painter leans a 25-ft ladder against a building. The base of the ladder is 7 ft from the building. To the nearest foot, how high on the building does the ladder reach?

This creates a right triangle. Thus we can use the Pythagorean theorem, where \[a^2 + b^2 = c^2\] Thus we get 625-49, which happens to be 24^2

OpenStudy (amistre64):

sqrt(25^2 - 7^2)

OpenStudy (amistre64):

thats assuming the building is 90 degrees to the grade of the yard

apologies, i forgot to mention that there should be a square root involved. Then take the square root of 24^2 to get 24.
