soh cah toa! tan = opposite / adjacent. so tan(43) = 5/x. Solve for x.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I dont know how to do tan

OpenStudy (anonymous):

tan = sin/cos.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

or those..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

not sure how to do it if you can't use those.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

are you not supposed to use sin / cos / tan? Is this not trigonometry?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

this question is in a geometry test.. so i have no idea how im supposed to do it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you could just use the "tan" button on your calculator to figure out tan(43) = 0.9325.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then 5/0.9325 = 5.36 rounds to 5.4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

also, Google makes for a sweet calculator. Just type "tan 43 degrees" into the search box and it works its magic.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohh, okay. thanks man!
