find the slope and y intercept 9-1/2y=8x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think all hope is lost for me learning this type o math

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It's not so bad. Try to isolate the y on one side of the equation. Can you do that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay. To do that, subtract the 9 from both sides of the equals sign. You get: -1/2y=8x-9

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Then divide the -1/2 from both sides, and you get y=-4x-9 (This is known as slope-intercept form.)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You with me so far?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay. Slope-intercept formula is y=mx+b. m=slope b=y-intercept

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So what do you think is the slope in your equation?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-16 and 18

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How did you get that?
