Why study art?
because art is the product or process of deliberately arranging items (often with symbolic significance) in a way that influences and affects one or more of the senses, emotions, and intellect :D (from wikipedia) But, I think art is symbol of life (from me)
it explores your mind. did you know. that when ur coloring, painting, doing things with color, or doing just plain art, you are excersizing your mind?
it helps you get a good education for college
Good art is often an exploration of an idea, something that asks or answers a question. There is a message to be gained from almost every piece of art - even those that claim to have no message. It is important for broadening the mind. Whether looking at art or creating it yourself - although I would consider both to be important - it forces you to consider issues from different perspectives and explore them fully in your mind. I would say that art forces a person to think fully and to have a more open and honest mind. On top of this, art is beautiful, liberating, frustrating, it mimics and it invents: art can be whatever you want it to be and the definition and "point" to it is different for each person.
Why not?
Andrey Tarkovsky on Art and Sacrifice "Art is born and takes hold wherever there is a timeless and insatiable longing for the spiritual, for the ideal: that longing which draws people to art. Modern art has taken a wrong turn in abandoning the search for the meaning of existence in order to affirm the value of the individual for its own sake. What purports to be art begins to look like an eccentric occupation for suspect characters who maintain that any personalized action is on intrinsic value simply as a display of self-will. But in artistic creation the personality does not assert itself, it serves another, higher and communal idea. The artist is always a servant, and is perpetually trying to pay for the gift that has been given to him as if by a miracle. Modern man, however, does not want to make any sacrifice, even though true affirmation of self can only be expressed in sacrifice. We are gradually forgetting about this, and at the same time, inevitably, losing all sense of our human calling..."
