why are globular proteins important? what are their primary functions and what are they made of? please i really need help :(

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Globular proteins serve as, or form important components of, the following: Enzymes Hormones Antibodies Some structural proteins. (Globular proteins form part of the cell membrane, which has a structural role as well as a role in transporting ions in and out the cell). They are made up of long chains of twisted and folded amino acids.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Globular proteins have a distinct tertiary structure (folding between alpha helix and beta pleated sheets held together with disulphide bridges, hydrogen bonds, ionic bonds and mutual attraction to create a three-dimensional structure). Globular proteins are soluble, whereas fibrous proteins are not. This, amongst other things, provides ease of transport throughout the body. Examples of globular proteins are enzymes, antibodies, and hormones.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

globular protein=Globular proteins, are one of the two main protein classes, comprising "globe"-like proteins that are more or less soluble in aqueous solutions (where they form colloidal solutions). Unlike fibrous proteins which only play a structural function, globular proteins can act as: 1.Enzymes, by catalyzing organic reactions 2.Messengers, by transmitting messages to regulate biological processes. This function is done by hormones, i.e. insulin etc. and about globular protien it depends so whenever you find TERTIARY CNFIGURATION,HIGHLY FOLDED,SOLUBLE AND APPEARANCE is like GLOBULAR and the bond present will be PEPTYDE +HYDROGEN+IONIC+DISULPHIDE+HYDROPHOBIC it will be globular protien
