OpenStudy (anonymous):

hair-like projections found in cells are called cillia. It serves as the structures that allows movement for the cell.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes, she is correct the tiny hair that beat to produce movement are called cilia. they are found in eukaryotic cells common example of organism with cilia is the single celled Paramoecium

OpenStudy (anonymous):

In single celled organisms like paramecium , cilia help in propelling the cell(the tiny hair like structures oh their surface)itself. In higher animals too cilia and it's movement is important. (search Wikipedia for Kartagener's and Young's syndrome.) Absence of cilia in fallopian tubes can lead on to infertility, and frequent respiratory tract infections, as they help in movement of cells through fallopian tubes and help in taking out the harmful organisms out of the respiratory tract by ciliary action.
