The Cold War was a conflict between the Communist nations (especially the Soviet Union (or USSR)) and America, and it was an attempt at containment of Communism, and it almost ended with a nuclear invasion atwixt the USSR and America with the attempted invasion of Cuba (Bay of Pigs) and the Cuban Missile Crisis, which was where the USSR parked nuclear warheads over in Cuba, under the new leadership of Fidel Castro, and President Kennedy attempted to go in and take them out with force.  Eventually a peace negotiation was made where we were never to attack Cuba, and the nukes were taken out of Turkey, while the USSR took out the missiles from Cuba
