Find the midpoint of the line segment whose endpoints are (-2, 5) and (6, -9 (:

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-2+6 5 + (-9) 4 -4 ----- , --------- = ---- , ------ 2 2 2 2 (2, -2)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x1 + x2 y1 + y2 mid point = -------- , -------- 2 2

thank youu! (:

Thanks !!!! keep this formula in mind and such questions will become very easy for you :))

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so what is the midpoint? like what does it mean?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it is the centre of the line segment or mid-point of the line suppose you draw a line segment of 4 cm length, then 2 cm is its mid point.....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

however, in your case, it is a sloping line as y-coordinates are different... hence we use this formula to find its mid-point or centre....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if u really want to understand this, plot the two point on the graph paper and join them to get the line segment... then use a scale to find its mid-point.... from this point drop one perpendicular onto the x-axis and another perpendicular to the y-axis and you will get the same value of x and y as we got.....

thank you (:
