3x - 8 ---------- 2x + 5 ( 6x^2 - x - 40 6x^2 +15x ---------- - 16x - 40 - 16x - 40 ---------- ................ before dividing make sure the terms are in descending order of degree that is sqaures of x , terms in x, then numbers

OpenStudy (anonymous):

first divide 2x into 6x^2 to give 3x then multiply 2x + 5 by 3x to give 6x^2 +15 and subtract -etc simi;ar to the way you do long division with numbers
