How did the british use see power to create an empire?

They where able to colonize areas of lands, keep them supplied, and protect the colonies from other European powers.

Also remember that during Elizabeth I's reign they established their sea power against another country that was king of the sea at the time: the Spanish. They would rob and loot Spanish ships loaded with treasure to pay for their own Navy. After a bit, they were able to colonize their own lands and take other empire's lands from them. While using colonies as naval bases, they had fought and stamped out all other empires to be #1 until well into the 20th Century.
