Hobbes was a political philosopher whose most famous work, Leviathan argued for strong government in order to restrain what he saw as human's natural, brutal nature. Franklin was the most famous American thinker. From experiments in electricity, numerous inventions, and the widely read Poor Richard's Almanac, Franklin was a classic example of the polymath Enlightenment thinker.
