Local, State, Federal? For which country?
The only thing I know about taxes is how to fill out certain forms that have all the necessary information to go with them. Tax law itself is an unknown to me.
Alvin, age 75, wants all of his property to eventually pass to his granddaughter, Holly, age 20. From a tax standpoint, would it be cheaper for Alvin to make the transfer to Holly by gift or at death? Explain.
I would need to hunt down the information about the two tax percentages that apply here. I don't know if googling it will bring up current tax percentages.

Having a hard time with inheritance tax fot some strange reason.
me too, i believe it would be cheaper to do after death if i am reading correct because as a gift you would have to pay based on a fair market value and after death you are not liable for taxation unless the property value exceeds the allowable exemption amount?
The search for the numbers is tedious and requires much patience. May have to go to the IRS help desk from irs.gov and wait for an email response from their end.
The IRS folks are really the ones to consult. They will gladly answer whatever tax questions you may have at any time. Our taxes pay them to do it.
Does that help?
One more thing. They are also paid to help you fill out any tax forms as long as you have all pertinent information immediately available. I bet you credit to navy beans you'll save on H&R Block fees, and you will be supremely confident that your forms are filled out completely and accurately.

Enrolled at San Diego City College, majoring in math. Also work part-time for the MESA Center and The Learning Center there.
Sometimes I do private one-on-one tutoring jobs, working with high school or college students taking math, physics, or engineering courses.
This works out better for me than being a full-fledged teacher. Helps me avoid red tape and save a forest or two.
Well, been a pleasure. Stu:^)
