What is the matrix.... lool! Seriously, I see this idea of a matrix (in my cs reading) and am wondering what the use of it is... and what branch of maths it is

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Matrices are used a lot in Linear Algebra, which has a lot of applications in Engineering and Computer Science.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It is a way to organize data into rows and columns. You can use it to solve systems of equations in early math.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you can also use it to solve vector equations in calc 3 which is important to physics as well

OpenStudy (anonymous):

early maths? I never came across it in school. Is it useful enough to study up? (Given that I have many maths things to study up on..) vector equations is prob above me right now.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I teach it in Algebra 2 when I teach inverse matrices. Sometimes for more advanced students I teached augmented matrices which is very similar to linear combination

if you are going into CS you will probably atleast want to learn a bit about then and about their determinates. depending on your area of study they are incredibly valuable tools

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay cool I will put it in my study plan, prob need a bit more study first anyway, by the sounds... thankyou for your help... I never thought I would ask that question... LOL

If you go to my website you can download the PPTs I use to teach it http://www.mrjoselson.com/2ms2011.html
