Is the 3ds worth it?

I am assuming you are talking about the phone... it is a matter of opinion ask 100 different people and you will get 100 different answers.

I am surviving without it.

It depends. You can get a big discount at GameStop if you have a former DS model ($150 off for a DSi XL). If not it's $250, which is more than a Wii. Personally I'm waiting for a price drop, but it's your call.
