I need help with parabola

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you have a specific question?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

whats is your question?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

There is a vertex.....The vertex is the coordinates of the max

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Looks like the vertex is (2,3)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well, I think I have part of it right, but what is the point in ordered form

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I just gave you the ordered pair of the point: (2,3) To find the equation you have to first find the points where x = 0, Then write it it in the form of (x - a)(x - b), then multiply it out

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so (x-2)(x-3)?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, that looks right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

let me check

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well, unfortunately, the zeroes are not exact...But you can approximate it by using decimals...That looks like the best that can be done

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok, the problem has a maximum value? correct

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, of course it has a max value

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and is it a maximum value because it opens down?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I have never had algebra before and I am in college level 2, I must have been crazy

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the axis of symmetry is 2 but how do I write that in equation

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Actually, after a closer look, I realize that it's (x-5.5)(x+1.5)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I can tutor you by the way

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok, but I still don't understand...lol I have a headache right now..lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Let me see if I can figure this out

OpenStudy (anonymous):

did you see the answers I came up with in my work sheet?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, I saw that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

am I close?? or on the right track, the teacher sent me comments that I ahve things wrong, do you want to see them?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

For your first problem, make sure to explain why it's a max value more. You should give the point in ordered pair form for the maximum to make sure you give the x and y values. Think about the vertex question again- there is ALWAYS a vertex for a parabola, otherwise it's not a parabola. The axis of symmetry is 2, but it should be written in the form of the equation of a line. For the last part, your a bit off. Check out this website for more help

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well, I realize that the binomials could have co-efficients multiplied by them

OpenStudy (anonymous):

english? lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah, you definitely need a tutor

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hahahahah...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I have gotten through 3 weeks I am in my 4th and 2 left

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay...I'm going to post an online classroom...do you have a headset?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you have a speaker and mic?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

speakers no mic

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hmmmm. Hold on a minute..
