Not strictly speaking a physics question, but I will help anyway.
For posters and similar things I quite like to use inkscape. It's pretty simple to get started, but if you get good it is extremely powerful.
If you want to do a more serious handout, and are in or going into further education, I would highly recommend learning how to use LaTeX. This is pretty much the standard way to write up anything scientific and being able to use it is a very useful skill in uni.
