A health study estimates that 30% of the people over the age of 60 will get flu shots this year. Of those people who get shots, 5% will have some sort of adverse reaction. If N is the number of people over the age of 60, how many people will have an adverse reaction to a flu shot this year? Explain

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no. having shots = 0.3N no. adverse reaction = 0.05 * 0.3N = 0.015N note 30 percnt = 0.30 and 5% = .05 56

OpenStudy (anonymous):

as a fraction it 15/1000 which is 1.5%

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1.5% of the people over 60 are expected to have an adverse reaction

OpenStudy (anonymous):

are you happy with that explanation?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanx!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it is usually easier to do your calculation in decimal form then convert to % later.
