can anyone explain the term 'political space'?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Political space is the 'space' a country or political system occupies in which it has allies or support groups. So, the UK would be considered in the U.S's political space, but North Korea would not. In contrast, an economic space would be the space a country exists within the international economy, so China would be considered in the U.S.'s economic space, but Cuba would not.

idk.

A bloody interesting question.

Maybe Space to form, create, be, consolidate? a revolutionary movement by definition would need political space to form unhindered. Or if you were seeking to embed say Free Market ideology and doctrine you would seek to guard and expand the political space in which it would happen?
