When will we have commercialized quantum computing?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it will be a while before we have quantum computing. its also questionable whether it will become commercialized becuase things that were once secure, ie wep, wpa, will no longer be secure. anyone with a quantum computer will break right through those securities.

If they just vastly increased the encryption of a password, couldn't they defeat the issue?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The first quantum computer was just sold recently (with in last couple of weeks). I believe it contained 4 q-bits.

Anon, the only way you could increase the encryption of a password to withhold a quantum computer attack would be to encrypt it using quantum mechanics. As far as I know, there isn't an easy way to encrypt data this way. The very essence of quantum mechanics states that a bit can be in a superposition of any and all states, so this is effectively saying that it automatically knows the answer to any password.
