Would an audience respond positively to a short story written in 3rd person objective if there was only one character? I know it would work for a drama, as a monologue, but as a short story would the writing seem too spare?

Yes, but maybe make the person telling the story not someone, but something, or from a more metaphorical point of view. I have done a couple of good stories told by death. Or, another idea is not telling who the person telling the story is, but make them a significant character in the story. Maybe something like the ghost of a person murdered in the story telling it. Just some good ideas, Hope I helped

I think it depends on the audience and the style of the writing...if it's for like a creative writing class, I'm sure everyone would "get it", you know? I say if you already have something in mind, you should think about who you're telling it to, and if it works then go for it!

yes... i agree. Btw, @goodperson, could i read your stories told by death, i found that fascinating and would love to check em out...

Glad you found that interesting, but unfortunately, I'm on vacation and only have my laptop, which doesn't have the stories on it, but I'll try to get them. Did you find my advice helpful? I'm only in 8th grade.

I actually wasn't planning on having anything tell the story. Basically, the narrator would be like a video camera, can't think, talk, move, or have a bias at all. But that does give me something to think about in case my second draft doesn't work out.

Alright, glad I could help!
