Why does waxed hair come back thin and shaved hair come back thick?

waxing: pulls the hair out. shaving: shaves the top. think of tree, its real thick at the bottom and skinnier at the top.
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Waxed hair may come back thinner due to the destruction of the follicle. However, it is a myth that shaved hair comes back thicker. It just seems that way because hair is cut at it's widest point which is at the base of the hair.
