Many universities are currently developing programs that have an "Energy Engineering" degree. One of which is Purdue University in Indianapolis. In a few years, they will have a fully developed program for that exact purpose. Your main focus of study will be in Mechanical Engineering courses, Chemistry, and Biology. All of these will give you a good background on sustainable energy.
