can anyone help with 5x+10y 6x+42 ______ x _______ 7x-49 15x+5y thanks

FOIL the top, like a normal polynomial, and do the same for the bottom

can anyone help with 5x+10y 6x+42 ______ x _______ 7x-49 15x+5y

OpenStudy (anonymous):

factor 5(x+2y) 6(x+7) -----------x -------- 7(x-7) 5(3x+y) the only thing that cancels is a 5 in the numerator with a 5 in the denominator 6 (x+2y)(x+7) ------------------ 7(x-7)(3x+y)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

60xy +420y+250x ------------------------- 105x^2 +35xy -735x -245y

Unless it tells you to multiply, I would factor, cancel or simplify what you are able to cancel or simplify and leave the answer in factored form.

thank you!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

12xy+84y+50x ------------------------ 7xy-49y-147x+105x^2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

12xy+12y+50x --------------- 7xy-7y-147x+105x^2

You could take Mr.Joselson's answer, take the x + 7, remove a - making -6 and x-7, cancelling out the 2 x-7's and ending up wiht the answer \[-6(x+2y)/ 7(3x+y)\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if you make the 6 negative it becomes -6(-x-7) which still can not be cancelled
