How do you begin a short story?

I like to open short stories the way I'd open a thematic essay. Starting broad and getting more specific with every sentence.
"High school is like being trapped in a prison (Very broad) Especially Winter Park high school (More specific...). And /especially/ when homecoming is right around the corner, and you happen to be me, certified dork (Very specific).
Of course everyone writes in a different style, so find what feels right for you.

The best way to begin a short story is to set the location ad characters right away... also the situation if you can. You don't have a lot of time, so get things clear as soon as possible
