Why was John Adams an important character in US history?... i mean, i know he was president, but, what important things did he do?

i believe John Adams was a not only a president but a good person. He believed in having a country like we have today. He was an American and he showed it.

so, what does it means to be an american? what kind of country did he belive in?

A country where people could be people. A free country. For everyone.

John Adams was a key speaker for persuading congress to declare independence, during his presidency he built the USA's first navy, he also diplomatically handled an incident with France and England.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

He was a big supporter of Enlightenment ideas, and helped to incorporate them into the country. He nominated John Marshall as chief justice of the supreme court, which was extremely important, as one of his cases brought about the tradition of Judicial Review. He also signed the Alien and Sedition acts, which were extremely controversial, and were the first of many acts by US presidents that would violate people's rights, particularly of free speech and press.
