A cone-shaped hole is drilled into a solid cube of metal. If the cube has side length 9 cm, what is the volume of the metal after the hole is drilled? Use 3.14 and round your answer to the nearest tenth.

OpenStudy (radar):

Wouldn't this be the volume of the cube minus the volume of the cone? Or are they wanting the volume of the cone shaped excavation. Being from Missouri sometimes it is best to "Show Me"

OpenStudy (radar):

After further thought, the problem is the volume of the cube minus the volume of the cone. The volume of the cube is 9 X 9 X 9 = 729 cm^3. Now if you will provide the data for the cone. Like I need the diameter (or radius) I assume the height is 9 cm, but if that differs, would also need that info.
