I'm looking help with Pinyin spellings because some are tricky. Anyone know any good ways to remember them?
well, you can think of English words that have the same sound that you're trying to produce.
for example: "c" would sound like the 'ts' in "hats" in English "q" would sound like the 'ch' in "cheat" "x" would sound like the 'sh' in "sheet" "z" would sound like the 'ds' in "fads"
yeah, vowels too. An "i" after 'h' or 'r' would sound like the 'r' in "grr." An "i" after 's' 'c' or 'z' would sound like 'z' in "bzzzzzz". And an "i" in other places would sound like "ee" in "beet"
Go to Chinesepod.com and search for the pinyinchart. It lists all the sounds you can make in Chinese, but best of all you can click on the pinyin and it will make the sound.
Which ones are you having the most trouble remembering?
Another nice "teach yourself pinyin" website I've seen is at: http://www.instantspeakchinese.com/pinyin/index.cfm Point at the pinyin texts underlined on the right hand side and you'll hear them
