How many galaxies in this Universe? Average number of suns / galaxy? I've seen a wide range of estimates for these numbers. Anybody know of a authoritative source?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

number of galaxies in the observable universe = 1.7×10^11

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the milky way has (2×10^11 to 4×10^11) stars

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That if I counted them correctly last night

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks Santistebanc, can you cite your source for that information?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well if it helps I can attest to the accuracy of his numbers. I would cite my astronomy textbook, but that wouldn't do you much good I feel.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

There is no exact way to calculate them......Coz our universe is always expanding.......A lot of stars are creating and destroying every second.....So study the univers......don't the stars of universe..........Ok.....
