How long did it take to build the Chinese Wall and who ordered it?
The Great Wall of China is actually a collection of several different walls, known 'collectively' as The Great Wall of China. Several sections have been built since the 5th Century BC and maintained through the 16th Century by several different emperors.
I guess if you want to say who first ordered the beginning of the great wall, you could say Qin Shi Huang of the Qin Dynasty around 221 BC.
He (Qin Shi Huang - First Emperor of China) ordered the building of the most famous of the wall sections, built in 220–206 BC. Little of that original wall exists. Construction of the Great Wall started in the 7th century B.C. The vassal states under the Chou Dynasty in the northern parts of the country each built their own walls for defense purposes. No one can say how long it took to complete, as it is still an ongoing process. Parts have been built and rebuilt for over 2000 years, and still counting.
