find answer using interval notation 3|x+8| < 3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you would get x+8 < -1 I am not sure if i am right!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I would first of all divide both side by 3 (positive=no change in sign): |x+8|<1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no you'll have: x+8<1 and -x-8<1 solve both & see what intervals are the answer. please try yourself & I'll help

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got x : (-9,-7) or -9<x<-7

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohh yea sorry, dumb mistake i made :-/..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[\text{Let } k=|x+8|\]\[\implies 3|x+8| = 3k\] \(3|x+8| < 3\)\[\implies 3k < 3\]\[\implies k < 1\]\[\implies |x+8| < 1\]\[\implies -1 < x+8 < 1\]\[\implies -1-8 < x <1-8 \]\[\implies -9 < x < -7\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Interval notation would be (-9,-7)
