what i got is
a^3 + a^2 + 2a + 8 a^3 + a^2 + 2a +8
---------------------- or -------------------
2a^4 + 9a^3 + 11a^2 - a (a+2)^2 * (a+1) * (2a-1)
which made it look like you canceled a (a+2) out, but the numerator doesn't divide by (a+2
