since she got a 4% raise, she's making 1.04 times as much money now as she was last year. \[1.04 * x = 41,200\] where x is her salary last year.
okay I need a better answer
One unknown in one equation, the answer is there if you re-arrange by dividing both sides by the 1.04 you're left with \[x = 41200/1.04\] and your calculator can tell you the rest.
