2,6,14,24,42,62,? complete the sequence and do tell that how it is solved

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I answered this before. Is the 4th number supposed to be 26? Because that would make more sense.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no its not i have seen it at two or three places it's the same

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So the differences are +4, +8, +10, +18, +20. Doesn't look like an easy sequence.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and the next no. in the sequence would be....?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It's not a well-formed sequence. There is no one correct answer. You could say it's 94.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think i got the answer it's not 94 it's 86 thanks for help:)

OpenStudy (amistre64):

+4, +8, +10, +18, +20. +4 +2 +8 +2 -2 +6 -6 +8 +12 +4 ........ it was worth a shot :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It's 86 only if the 4th number is 26, like I said earlier.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

nups it's 24 and it's done :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

My head is exploding. This makes no sense.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

please explain how you got 86.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

amistre64 found the correct sequence it's +4, +8, +10, +18, +20. +4 +2 +8 +2 -2 +6 -6 +8 +12 +4 and adding +4 to +20 it's +24 the next difference

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No, his triangle is wrong. The "+12" on the second-to-last row should be "-12" because +6 to -6 is -12. So the last number shouldn't be "+4," it should be "-20." And you can't just add that to the last difference to get the next one. I'm telling you. It's a crap sequence, and 86 only makes sense if the 4th number is 26!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what about this +4 +8 +10 +18 +20 2*2 2*4 2*5 2*9 2*10 and then we repeat it like +24 2*12 then with 14,15,19,20....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you could make up any rule whatsoever like that to justify the next number, though. Like: +4 +8 +10 +18 +20 +32 +34 +4 +2 +8 +2 +12 +2 That would justify my answer of 96. or: +4 +8 +10 +18 +20 2*2 2*4 2*5 2*9 2*10 and then we repeat it like +6 3*2 then with 3*4, 3*5, 3*9,.... Your answer is also plausible. They have not given enough information to be able to say the correct answer. You could justify anything.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes that's correct and i recently came up with another one which gives 98 as the next no. and your no. comes out to be 94 instead of 96
