For converting mixed numbers into "improper" fractions, there's a hand method called "around the world" This is where you take the whole number, multiply it by the denominator, then add by the numerator, put that number as the new numerator then keep the denominator the way it is. Doing this, we get the problem (64/9)-(14/3) We then need to get a common denominator in order to add or subtract, so we multiply the 14/3 by 3/3 in order to give it a denominator of 9, bringing us to (64/9)-(42/9). Then all you have to do is subtract the numerators and keep the denominator, and you have your answer of: 22/9
