Well what you want to do is plug in the values. You are given a choice of answers (x, y). So plug the x value into the right hand side. Place the y value on the left side of the < -6 < 2*3 - 5 which simplifies to -6 < 1

Since -6 < 1 it satisfies the inequality. Does my explanation make sense? x=3 and y = -6 from the selection D (3, -6) plug it into y < 2x - 5
