\[\text{Posting an entire question in equation format currently displays properly in}\]\[\text{the preview, but it does not display correctly when you click on the question}\]\[\text{to read it. This post is an example of the phenomenon.}\]

Scratch that. Neither place the question nor summary is displayed correctly as of now. For what it is worth, the live preview is displayed correctly and the question used to be displayed correctly after clicking on it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

After replying the question is displayed correctly. The first preview/summary line (on the left) is displayed correctly, but not the second line.

In any case, something is not quite right.

OpenStudy (shadowfiend):

Yeah, we usually actually don't pass the left side through LaTeX at all, in part because the space constraints are very different and are much harder to reason about when LaTeX is involved. Long story short, we generally limit the left-pane display to 3 lines or 140 characters, whichever is shortest. Because of how math is typed, things get complicated when we try to do that. It's definitely a problem that the left side is somehow pulling the equation format -- something's funky with that -- but it was normal that it wasn't displaying formatted equations before. We'll look into both issues.
