Solve the equation 2^x = 3x−2?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2 is a solution by inspection. i.e. replace x by 2 and see that it works

OpenStudy (anonymous):

other solution will not be determined by algebra. you will have to use a graphing utility to find it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

although i could be wrong. what i mean is that "i cannot do it using algebra"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

haha ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That pretty much sums it up. The easiest way to do it is to graph both equations and find the intersection.

OpenStudy (zarkon):

You will need a numerical technique to find the 2nd root

OpenStudy (zarkon):

\[x\approx2.224545912\]
