help please :( Find the height of the cross if the shadow of a boy 5 ft. 6 in. tall is 2 ft and the shadow of the cross is 2 yards.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm thinking that the cross is 16.5 ft.

These are essentially two similar triangles. The sides are proportional. If the shadow of the boy is 2 feet and the shadow of the cross is 6 feet (2 yards), then the cross must be 3 x the height of the boy.

OpenStudy (radar):

I think so too. 5.5 ft: 2ft ::x : 6 ft
