Personally, I prefer using the quadratic formula isf the equation doesn't factor. \[2x^{2}-8x-3=0\]a=2, b=-8, c=-3 \[x=(-b\pm\sqrt{b^{2}-4ac})/2a=(8\pm\sqrt{64+24})/4=(8\pm2\sqrt{22})/4=4\pm(\sqrt{22}/2)\] Which is the same answer, but, in my opinion, in a pretty form.
