Using complete sentences, explain how solving a literal equation is similar to or different from simplifying an expression such as 6 - 2(52 + 7) ÷ 4.

You can fill this in but the main idea is that following the order of operations is key to getting the right answer. If you answer the expression above left to right without regard to the parenthesis you will make an error. A common misconception is to do 6 - 2 first. In this example you need to evaluate 52 + 7 first, multiply that by -2 , divide by 4 and then add 6 to it.
