what is the x-intercept of the equation y+3x+5= 0 explain answer?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Here you must set y to be zero to ge the x intercept. First we move all terms that are not y to the right side. This gives us: y=-3x-5. Next set y to zero: 0=-3x-5. Then solve for x, add 5 to both sides: 5=-3x, finally divide both sides by -3, giving us -5/3=x. Thus our x intercept is (-5/3,0)
