Can anyone help me find the the value of a number raised to a power without a calculator. i.e 2 to the 11th

OpenStudy (anonymous):

multiply it out?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is there a shorter way to do this

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't believe so.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Round the power to the nearest number you know, for example 2^11 is approximately 2^10*2^1. so it would be 2(1024)=2048

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You can also just multiply 2 eleven times

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lols, isn't this all going back to "multiplying it out?"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok thank you Astronomer2231

No problem. Also keep in mind that you can also do that kinda trick with any powers. Powers are additive, which means that breaking them down is often the best way to do things mentally.
