2x-5=3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2x-5 = 3 to solve for x you have to isolate it. so first lets get rid of the 5. how do we do that? add 5 to both sides. gets rid of the 5 on the LHS 2x-5+5 = 3+5 2x = 8 now, divide by 2 on both sides 2x/2 = 8/2 x =4
