Inspection (or rational root theorem) gives a root of 2 (6-2+4-8 = 0)

Factoring this (you can do this, right?) gives a quadratic with imaginary roots so 2 is the only real root.

Thanks estudier.. been wracking my brain for about half an hour trying to work out how to do that equation without a calculator.
