In the figure below that I will attach, segments PS and CD are parallel and RP = 3DP. If CR = 16, then which is RS −CS?

PS divides both lines in the same way. The left one is divided in the ratio 3 to 1 so you need to divide 16 into two numbers in the same way (ie one number is three times the other).

If the number is to be divided in the ratio of 3 to 1, hen you have 4 parts in total. 4*4 = 16 so the line is divided as 3*4/1*4 or 12 and 4.
