Minors and Cofactors? I just don't get it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Any one know about this?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is this to do with matrices?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes it does.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

any one there?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok - hmm long time ago when i did these - a cofactor of a matrix is the cofactor of the determinant of the matrix its difficult to explain here. your best bet is to google it os check out the wolfram sites.

i'll explain some of it here for the determinant | a b c | | d e f | | g h i | the cofactor of e is (-1)^4 | a c | = ai - gc | g i | - note that the letters are obtained by 'blanking out' the column and row whch e is on \ \

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the minor of the determinant is the | a c | | g i | (without the sign outside)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

whats the minor?
