simplify -2+ ( -1)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do you see why that is?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if it was -2 - (-1) it would be -1. when the sign in the middle of the equation and the sign in the parenthesis are the same, you will add. when the signs are different you will subtract.

evaluate this expression , given that m=-3 and n=1 ......... 3( m+ n )

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you just substitute the letters for the corresponding numbers. 3(-3+1). multiply 3 and -3; then multiply 3 and 1. you get -9+3. then you just add -9 and 3 which is -6.
